Sofia Heke (Ngāti Ranginui) is a fashion and textile designer based in Ōhinehau (Lyttelton) Ōtautahi. She completed her Bachelor of Design (Honours) at Otago Polytechnic in 2022, alongside Toi Māori and Indigenous studies at Te Wānanga O Aotearoa. 

Heke’s work is centred around cultural identity and the experience of dual ethnicity. Her practice is shaped by collaboration and community, with a focus on indigenising and decolonising design methodology.‘The Hybridised Mind’ is a collection that communicates hybrid identity and a collaboration between Sofia and her sister Stella, a visual artist. They express their experiences as Māori and Pākehā wāhine, and the constant search for connection to cultural identity.
