NZFW's Official Wine Partner Has Been Unveiled
NZFW’s Official Wine Partner, Crown Range Cellar, is a reminder that the best ideas are often hatched over a glass of wine. Crown Range Cellar was born on the back of a napkin over a glass or two at a local Queenstown restaurant overlooking the mountain ranges. The dream was to make small volumes of award winning wine, grown in a variety of famous wine regions throughout New Zealand.
Working with some of New Zealand’s most talented winemakers, the revolutionary wine producers are brimming with the creativity, passion and experience needed to create distinctive wines of balance and finesse.
Most well known for their Pinot Noir, it all started with their flagship wine – the Signature Selection Pinot Noir from Gibbston – made by master winemaker Grant Taylor. Having perfected his craft in Burgundy and the Napa Valley, Grant returned to his native Otago in 1993 and was one of the pioneers of Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir. 36 years in the making, the Signature Selection Pinot Noir is a celebration of Grant's craft and his deep connection with Central Otago. After three years experimenting with different parcels of land, winemaking techniques and after plenty of mistakes, they finally felt ready to show the wine to the world. In 2015 they entered the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London for the first time and that year they won the Trophy for Best Pinot Noir, competing against 90 countries and 30,000 wine entries.
Every year since then they have collaborated with top wine makers to produce limited volumes of these exclusive wines. The latest collaboration is with Patrick Léon, the world famous winemaker who worked with Baron Phillipe de Rothschild from 1985 until 2000. Today he is making a limited run of Syrah for Crown Range Cellar.
The most exciting new development from Crown Range Cellar is their range of deep reds – The Stolen Heart collection. Incorporating Merlot Malbec, Cabernet Merlot and Syrah from the Gimblett Gravels, the range is seductive, dark and mysterious. The Stolen Heart story has been told in a recent short film which took place in New York. Featuring Art Green and Matilda Rice, styled by designer Nicole Miller, the piece tells the story of a love that was so wrong, but felt so right.
Crown Range Cellar now has a range of wines in different styles to suit different tastes and moods. Each wine is creatively presented alongside matching photography, video and music telling unique stories designed to trigger memories, emotions and personal experiences that make drinking them an intimate experience.
As hosts of the main wine bar at NZFW, the scene is perfectly set for fun, personal, multi-sensory experiences that will linger long on the taste buds. With a series of immersive tasting experiences taking place during New Zealand Fashion Week, if you aren’t already acquainted with Crown Range Cellar, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more captivating opportunity than this.
