Meet The Designers w/ Kathryn Wilson
What’s your brand story?
After graduating from Massey University and winning an AMP Scholarship, Kathryn honed her design skills and set about creating her own line of footwear. In 2003 Kathryn Wilson the label was born. Kathryn Wilson has emerged as one of the fastest-growing fashion brands in New Zealand. Stocked in over 100 local boutiques and with an ever-growing online market, the label is on the front foot in the fashion industry. Kathryn Wilson Footwear prides itself in offering a unique product and a genuine customer experience instore. We love to design and sell beautiful shoes that make people feel good about themselves and feel like they can take on the world when wearing our footwear. Our brand values which we align our designs and all customer interaction both online and instore are a playful approach, colourful and unique designs, empowerment of our customers, innovation and aspiration.
What can we expect from your show this year?
We are putting together a fun, up-lifting catwalk presentation which will be entertaining and energetic. We will be showcasing 80 pairs of women’s footwears from both S’19 and W’20 collections from Kathryn Wilson and Miss Wilson footwear.
What has inspired the collection you’ll be showing at NZFW 2019?
Hollywood poolside parties, candy colours, red-carpet ready, Miami sunsets of the 80s
How does this year’s Fashion Week theme ‘Sustainability’ resonate with your brand and your collection?
For the fast-paced fashion lovers, we have designed the next wave of stylized light-weight runners that can get you to and from the venue in style while catching public transport or on foot.
What’s your favourite story/show/moment/feeling from New Zealand Fashion Week?
Having 3000 people turn up for our show in 2011 closing NZFW with a full concert performance from Kimbra.
Tell us your favourite leverage or connection to come from your participation in New Zealand Fashion Week? E.g. Creating content, hosting partners and customers, getting in front of the media, selling and talking to international and national markets, building your brand profile, growing your customer base etc.
Picking up accounts in New York, Hong Kong and LA when buyers delegates used to come from afar.
What was your motivation behind wanting to take part in New Zealand Fashion Week? E.g. Creating content, hosting partners and customers, getting in front of the media, selling and talking to international and national markets, building your brand profile, growing your customer base etc.
We are passionate about supporting the pinnacle industry event for NZ designers and love being part of the energy and action each year.
