Paying due homage to the threads so deeply woven in our nation's tapestry, the show is all set to spotlight the local designers versed in the art of utilising these versatile fibres to their maximum potential. Wonderful Wool showcased garments from Lela Jacobs, Liz Mitchell, Wanoa Four and Wynn Hamlyn. Liz Mitchell and Wanoa Four explained the inspiration behind their collections.
Titled Modern Heritage, Liz Mitchell's Autumn Winter 2018 took inspiration from "Vanessa Bell, the Bloomsbury artist, the heritage wools of Harris Tweed, and the sixties rock’n’ roll music". As always Liz's collection featured bespoke tailoring and luxurious fabric with a focus on sustainability.
Exploring the story of wool in all its glory Wanoa Four's H . O . P . E - How Our Paths Evolve Autumn Winter 2018 collection utilised premuim natural fibre yarns sourced directly from one of New Zealand's last remaining mills. Wanoa Four's message is clear - "the path you walk and the footprint you leave behind, will be your legacy from one generation to the next".
Smashbox was behind the makeup for the Wonderful Wool with designers wanting a fresh and dewy natural look for all desingers. dharma were the masterminds behind hair at Wonderful Wool. Liz Mitchell opted to keep it natural with pony tails and centre parts, while Wanoa Four went for a natural 'some up, some down' look.
