As the name suggests, this year's formidable league of emerging designers are ones to watch. Behold the new kids on the fashion block of 2017; NOT FOR YOU, Pania Greenaway, Luke Dawson and GEOJ OFFICIAL.
NOT FOR YOU's 2018 collection, titled 1 in 100, takes inspiration from the homeless community in New Zealand. Overwhelmed in discovering that 1 in 100 New Zealanders are homeless with many more living paycheck-to-paycheck, designer Jerome Taylor began his research and developed a collection. Jerome explained "I chose to do my collection on this as I wanted to learn more and share the knowledge with others through this platform I have been given - fashion."
With the starting point of astrology, Pania Greenaway's Rock Me Venus Autumn/Winter 2018 collection explores textured fabrics and relaxed silhouettes to create an effortless romantic rock vibe. When asked about the inspiration of the collection shared that "it is the bright evening and morning star that helped guide the great navigators of the Pacific though unpredictable and changing circumstances keeping them on course to Aotearoa. I’m always inspired by people who light up like Venus."
Thebalm created the make up looks for New Generation, each designer choosing to keep the looks understated and fresh. Pania Greenaway explaining she "wanted something striking, standout and out of the box" opting to move away from a heavily contoured look instead favouring a fresh, neutral face and bold eye.
Dharma was behind New Generation's hair offering versatile looks to suit all the designers involved. For Pania Greenaway and GEOJ OFFICIAL this was an edgy yet neutral slicked back look, while NOT FOR YOU and Luke Dawson kept it simple adding depth and texture with teasing.
